a grill, some veggies, friends & family… perfection!

some of my favorite nights are spent with friends, family, and great food.  last night was no exception!  tomas’s sister, brother-in-law, and his mom were all in town so we decided to grill out.  we went all over the city gathering supplies (mostly meat!), the boys made a make-shift table in the back yard, we put the beer on ice and fired up the charcoal!

the menu included oysters from taylor shellfish, hanger steak and chorizo from rain shadow meats, and rack of lamb from costco, some crunchy bread, and summer squash topped with parmesan.  taylor shellfish and rain shadow meats are two of the stores within the melrose market in capitol hill.  it is a beautiful little market with a handful of little independently owned shops.

as usual, tomas handled the meat and i took care of the veggies… he seasoned the hanger steak with salt and pepper, then put them in the freezer before he grilled them so they charred when he grilled them over high heat.  the lamb was rubbed with a homemade rosemary-garlic infused olive oil, and the chorizo was simply grilled and served with a baguette.

for the veggies i sliced up some zucchini and yellow squash and sauteed them in olive oil, salt & pepper, oregano and thyme.  i finished it off with strips of parmesan (one of my favorite ingredients).

the weather was beautiful all night, and having all four dogs run around in the backyard with our family and our new friends, pablo & amanda, made for a perfect night!
